As you research your selected guitarist, you will need to note some specific information from his or her life and career. Include the following in your final writing:
Listen to "Texas Flood" by Stevie Ray Vaughan Written Information:
The person I researched for my project was Stevie Ray Vaughan. Vaughan plays blues on bass guitar, along with jazz and rock. Blues is music that is more sad and depressing. Jazz is more of a genre of music that makes you want to dance and usually has a good beat. With rock its more loud and fast beat and it is related to jazz and other genres like that.
Stevie Ray Vaughan lived from October 3, 1956 and died August 27, 1990. He died from a helicpoter accident. Many say that the cause was pilot error. When Stevie Ray Vaughan was a kid he played bass for his older brother in his brother's band. By the age of eight he was playing hand-me-down guitars from his brother. And he caught on instantly. He looked up to, Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, Otis Rush, Lonnie Mack, and Muddy Waters. The Village Voice said that Vaughan was "Good Enough to adore {Hendrix} with out embarassing himself." In the 1960s psychedelic twist on blues and reinterpret it for the youth of the 1980s. Vaughan's cover of the Hendrix song "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" became a high point of his live shows. Since Vaughan had struggled with drug and alcohol problems it had affected his performances. At one concert in London, Vaughan had collapsed and fell from the stage. Soon he was checked into the Marietta clinic for a month-long stay under the care of Dr. Victor Bloom. Some of his friends who visited to lend him support were Jackson Browne and Eric Clapton. Later he was transferred to a Georgia Treatment Facility.
Some songs that Stevie Ray Vaughan had released were, Couldn't Stand the Weather in 1984 and Soul to Soul in 1985. And also his revision of Jimi Hendrix's song Voodoo Chile. People who influenced Vaughan the most would have to be his brother and Jimi Hendrix. He looked up to them greatly. He was known to be under the spell of Jimi Hendrix. Music that had influenced him was blues, jazz and rock. It shows because those are the styles he ended up playing in his own songs.
Stevie Ray Vaughan had influenced many. He's partically the reason why blues, rock, and jazz are so popular today. Many people for dance class use jazz music. Vaughan also helped spark the blues and start up the popularity of it and get more people playing it. When Vaughan died his death sparked interest in his earlier albums as well, and each album quickly shot over one million dollars in sales. The Sky is Crying, is an album of previously unreleased out-takes and masters, and it was released in 1991 and won two more Grammy Awards for Vaughan. Several live recordings of varying quality were released in later years, proving Vaughan's growing legacy.
Something that shocked me in Vaughan's life was how serious his alcohol and drug addiction was and the fact that he fell off a stage during a concert he was performing in was shocking. He used drugs to enduce his playing and working ethics. I was also shocked by the fact that he had to get hospitalized for it and the outcome of what drug addictions can do. And i was really shocked on how he was such a good guitar player and how he impacted music today.
